The Little Plain is Hungary's most western and windy region. It enjoys a strong ocean beeze. Its area covers 400 km. Like the Great Plain, rivers formed its surface. The Danube created Europes greatest alluvial cone rich in gravel here. In the southern part there are basalt mountains suitable for wine-growing. Its transport geography is fairly favourable.
The feet of the Alps (Alpokalja)
They are the spur of the Eastern Alps formed out of crystal rocks. Due tothe vicinity of the Alps its climate is rainy and subalpine-like. The greatest part of its territory is covered by pine and beech forests. Its two major parts are the mountains of Kszeg and Sopron, and the hilly countryside of Zala.
Szigetköz
Szigetköz is an isle surrounded by the windings paths of the Danube, Moson and the Old Danube. Its northern twin is the Csallkz, situated on the territory of Slovakia. It is the creation of the Danube: an alluvial cone indented with shoals, 130-km-long and 50 km-wide. The construction of the barrage of Nagymaros endangered its natural water life and rich drinking supply.
