Budapest is the capital of Hungary and its main city. The metropolis has two million inhabitants. The city is the seat of the Parliament, Government and President. Here are concentrated the most important companies and offices.
Hungary’s capital stretches on both banks of the Danube, which divides into two vastly different. The mountainous region of the Buddha is located in front of the flat and extensive Pest.
In the section of the Danube which passes through Budapest, one can find three islands. Among these, the largest is the island of Csepel. The others are the island of Margarita, located in the heart of the city, and the island of Obuda, more to the North. The two parts of the city, Buda and Pest are connected by 9 bridges.
Since 1994, Budapest has been divided into 23 districts, among which 6 are in Buda and 16 in Pest, and one between the two parts of the city, on the island of Csepel. The districts are listed clockwise, starting from the inside out. Some of the districts are named after a traditional part of town, as for example Jozsefvaros, which is the official name of district VIII. The District VIII. is the oldest. Its population is over eighty thousands. The inner and central district are the better equipped regarding means of transportation.
District VII, called Erzsébetváros, is one of the more crowded districts with very green areas. At the end of the Second World War, this territory was the Budapest ghetto, which was released on 18 January 1945. Among the 120 thousand Jews who survived the Holocaust Hungarian, approximately 70 thousand were alive in the ghetto during the release.
The district V. Budapest (Downtown-City Lipot) is the heart of the capital. It is the central district of Pest. It hosts the national institutions, which are the centers of scientific, political, cultural and business. District V. is also home to such attractions as the Váci street, the Kossuth square, Parliament or the Basilica of St. Stephen. The district is actually one of the smallest of Budapest. It consists of two parts of the cities, the historic city center and the city of Lipot. The district V. is a knot of traffic, you can reach her through many streets and connected with four bridges spanning the Danube to the Buda side. On the banks of the Danube which belongs to the City can also find the river ports of the capital.
Districts in Budapest V-VI are called the internal working area. They have very few houses. This part of the city is crowded with people coming to work. Districts VII.-VIII. are those that can be considered as internal residential area. The parts of the city that are considered as external work: Ujpest, Angyalfold, Kobanya, Csepel, Obuda, Budafok. The outer residential area contains parts of the city of Kispest Pesterzsebet, and Bekasmegyer Kaposztasmegyer.
