At the turn of the 20th century, the desire for fresh political and economic news catered to the needs of hundreds of newspapers in Hungary. The turnover of the newspapers already amounted to 250 million before the First World War. Newsvendors sold the one-penny worth competing papers whoopingly, such as the Evening Paper or the Fresh Paper. The newspaper publishing fever increased not only the number of political papers and tabloids, but also that of the artistic-literary publications. In 1890, 'the Week' was published, to which almost every cafeteria in the capital subscribed. The 'West' published in 1908, brought the real breakthrough and connected Hungarian literary life to the Western European intellectual trends.
