There a 22 wine regions in Hungary. Hungarian wines are of high quality and reds and whites are available from all over Hungary. Tokay is Hungary's most famous wine. This wine region has been completely renovated, large investments were made after the 1990s, especially from French companies. It's normally sweet - although there are dry versions - and is widely available in restaurants.

In the Tokaj region, there are only white grape species, but these grapes have a lot of variety, from dry wines to sweet dessert wine called “aszú”.

Spirits include apricot brandy (Barack palinka), cherry schnapps (kirsch) and plum brandy. The famous Unicum is a black spirit peculiar to Hungary.
